RAD media converters and repeaters enable using the existing infrastructure to connect carrier-type devices with mismatching interfaces. In many cases, converters are a cost-effective alternative to high cost fiber optic interfaces of routers, ATM devices and ADMs where there is a need to extend fiber reach.
