RAD's Intelligent Demarc Solution Named Finalist for Convergence World Award's Best Ethernet Product

March 15, 2007: Judges for the Convergence World Awards 2007, which recognizes the best products and services in the information and communications technology industry, have named the ETX family of Ethernet Network Termination Units (E-NTUs) from RAD Data Communications as a finalist in the competition's Best Ethernet Product category.
Presented in association with the International Engineering Consortium (IEC), the Convergence World Awards are also endorsed by the The Moriana Group, Fixed Mobile-Convergence Alliance (FMCA), Wi-Fi Alliance and Mobile Ignite. The awards will be presented at a ceremony held in Milan, Italy on Tuesday, March 27 at the IEC's C5 Network World Forum.

Carrier-Owned and Operated Units Installed at the Customer Premises

The ETX-102 and ETX-202 Ethernet demarcation devices are intelligent carrier-owned and operated demarcation units installed at the customer premises that transport Ethernet traffic over the fiber Local Loop. Supporting advanced Ethernet-based OAM (Operations, Administration and Maintenance) features, the ETX-102 and ETX-202 provide service differentiation, rate limiting, VLAN stacking, and end-to-end control up to the customer site to permit enforcement of service level agreements. By deploying the ETX-102 and ETX 202 at the customer premises, service providers can extend their reach and control over the fiber Local Loop while facilitating management of differentiated services, such as interoffice LAN connectivity, Internet access and VPNs.
"RAD's concept is to bring OAM and QoS (Quality of Service) as close as possible to where the Ethernet service begins, which is actually the customer premises," explains Yacov Cazes, Director of Ethernet Product Management at RAD Data Communications. "To accomplish this, our Ethernet access concept is based on the deployment of E-NTUs at the customer site, which serve as demarcation devices between the public and customer networks," he adds.

Ethernet as a Carrier-Class Technology

Ethernet OAM is recognized as a cornerstone in the transformation of Ethernet into a carrier-class technology because it allows service providers to proactively monitor their service. "By enabling accurate end-to-end OAM performance measurements, RAD's ETX devices provide an essential tool in monitoring Service Level Agreements (SLAs) end-to-end, guaranteeing that the customer receives the precise SLA that has been contracted," Cazes concludes.

RAD's ETX products are part of its EtherAccess strategy for delivering both Ethernet and emulated services over any infrastructure. EtherAccess is designed to provide carriers and their customers with a cost-effective, standards-based system for delivering a uniform user experience with verifiable SLAs.
