Service Provider Poll Supports RAD's Ethernet Demarcation Strategy

End-to-End SLA Verification Selected as Key International Prerequisite

December 26, 2006: RAD Data Communications, a leading vendor of intelligent Ethernet demarcation equipment, sees its Ethernet demarcation point strategy confirmed in the results of a recent industry poll posted on the online telecommunications news site Light Reading.
The results indicated that an overwhelming 84.1 percent of leading service providers around the world now offer SLA-based Ethernet services or will do so within the next twelve months. An additional seven percent, moreover, plan to offer such services within the next two years. When asked what are the three most important uses for Ethernet demarc points in their networks, 68.9 percent of the respondents included Service Level Agreement (SLA) verification, which itself was the single most popular response.

"These poll results dovetail perfectly with the functionality of the Ethernet access devices that RAD has developed for this growing market," states Yacov Cazes, Director of Ethernet Product Management at RAD Data Communications. "SLA allows service providers to generate more revenues from their Ethernet service offerings," Cazes explains. "The ability to measure and verify end-to-end SLA parameters becomes then essential for providing SLA based services," he notes. "For that reason, RAD has included in its Ethernet access platforms a mechanism that can monitor SLA parameters such as frame delay, frame delay variation (jitter), frame loss, and availability," Cazes adds. "The SLA verification mechanism both records SLA values over time and actively warns when values exceed predefined SLA objectives, thus providing service providers with the necessary tool to complement their SLA-based service offerings."
