Gigabit Ethernet
Gigabit Ethernet, also known as GbE, refers to a data transmission rate of 1 Gigabit per second (1,000 Megabit per second), using Ethernet technology. Various Gigabit Etherent standards address GbE transmission over different fiber and copper media, including 1,000BaseT, 1,000BaseX, 1,000BaseLX, and others. Gigabit Ethernet is quickly becoming the most common method for WAN (wide area network) connectivity in Carrier Etherent deployments, delivering the minimal bandwidth requirements for Etherent private lines and Layer 2 VPN applications. GbE requires the installation of Gigabit Etherent converters, GbE demarcation devices or GbE pseudowire gateways at the customer premises, all of which are available by RAD.
