IPmux-4LGE

Pseudowire Gateway: 4 x E1, FE & GbE over Ethernet/IP

RAD’s IPmux-4LGE TDM pseudowire access gateway extends TDM and Ethernet services over packet switched networks. It enables seamless migration to NG packet networks and services using standard TDMoIP, CESoPSN and SAToP encapsulation with minimal processing delay. The IPmux-4LGE TDM pseudowire access gateway converges full, fractional and unframed E1 streams along with Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet user traffic over IP, MPLS or Ethernet networks, providing an ideal solution for circuit emulation and legacy leased line services, as well as for PBX backhaul, PSTN access and TDM trunking over packet transport.

  • Ensure Ethernet QoS with Ethernet switching and bridging capabilities

The IPmux-4LGE TDM pseudowire access gateway offers an ideal solution for economical PSTN access and TDM trunking over wired and radio packet access. It works opposite other IPmux CPEs, such as the IPmux-2L and IPmux-24, in point-to-point installations. Alternatively, it connects to the IPmux-155L, Gmux-2000 or Megaplex-4100 pseudowire aggregation gateways in hub-and-spoke topologies, or connected to other IPmux devices over standard Ethernet fiber ring. With extensive TDM pseudowire support, it enables enterprises and utility companies to take advantage of new packet switched networks for legacy services transport, without replacing their existing equipment or affecting service quality.

Advanced pseudowire functionality

Incorporating RAD’s new generation of ASIC processors, the IPmux-4LGE features enhanced pseudowire performance with minimal processing delay, including support for all standard TDM circuit emulation modes, such as TDMoIP, CESoPSN and SAToP. Featuring a 64-circuit pseudowire capacity, the IPmux-4LGE supports individually configured pseudowire connections in timeslot granularity, thereby supporting multiple PW types simultaneously. By grooming DS0-level bundles, the IPmux-4LGE also facilitates an efficient use of the TDM ports.

Pseudowire timing

The IPmux-4LGE supports various clocking options to ensure synchronization as any standard TDM device. These include loopback timing, external clock source or internal, using the device’s internal oscillator. The IPmux-4LGE can also recover the original clock with great accuracy, using per-port adaptive clock recovery. It complies with G.823 traffic interface mask and provides high accuracy synchronization. In addition, Simple Network Time Protocol support for retrieving time and date from an SNTP server enables effective troubleshooting, automatic time configuration for new devices and centralized management of daylight saving time changes.

Ethernet QoS and VLAN capabilities

The IPmux-4LGE TDM pseudowire access gateway includes an Ethernet switch featuring four Fast Ethernet UTP ports and one or three Gigabit Ethernet UTP or SFP ports. In addition to high flexibility to support a wide range of user and network equipment, such port versatility allows the use of various customer-network topologies. Supported Ethernet attributes include port-based VLAN membership and VLAN tagging, as well as VLAN stacking (Q-in-Q). In addition, it supports port-based rate limitation, enabling the total transmitted bandwidth to be adapted to the limitations of the transport media. Ethernet QoS features include four priority queues, scheduled by Strict Priority or Weighted Fair Queue (WFQ). Traffic is classified according to IP Precedence, 802.1p, DSCP, or port default priority.

Ethernet ring protection for mobile backhaul

The IPmux-4LGE supports Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) per ITU-T G.8032, enabling mobile operators to achieve optimized deployment topology for 2G backhaul, or for colocated 2G/3G base stations, over PSN. Up to 16 nodes can be connected via the ring, ensuring sub-50ms resiliency with a standard protocol and thereby allowing easy replacement of obsolete SDH access without fiber re-layout.

EMS management

The IPmux-4LGE TDM pseudowire access gateway features flexible management capabilities, including local management via an ASCII terminal (RS-232). In addition, remote management can be performed either inband or out-of-band, using the network or user ports, while maintaining separation between management and user traffic via the use of VLANs. Advanced FCAPS (Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance, Security) and diagnostic tools are provided by RADview-EMS, RAD’s carrier-class element management system, via an SNMP-based GUI.

The IPmux-4LGE also supports a variety of configuration access channels, including Telnet,
SNMP, Web server, and TFTP.

In addition, alarms may be sent to a remote Syslog server for easy integration into a standard centralized alarm logging system. A Dying Gasp feature enables network operators to monitor and take immediate action in the event of site/device power failures.
